Extra Life Spotlight: Joe Blow Gamer

We are less than 1 month away from Game Day, so over the coming weeks, we will be spotlighting a few Extra Life teams. First up, Joe Blow Gamer led by Trevor Carlee and Nicholas North.

  1. What is your team’s origin story and/or the origin of your team name?

Our team started out from a conversation on our podcast years back. We run a gaming site (that has mostly devolved into just a podcast / YouTube channel) for average gamers who grew up on games but now have the added responsibilities and time restraints of parenthood. The site is called “Joe Blow Gamer,” hence the name of our team. At first we thought Extra Life would be a fun challenge and a great way to have an excuse to get together and game. Soon after, two of us each had children go through stints at the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, and it forever cemented this organization in our lives.

  1. What has been your team’s best Extra Life moment?

Personally I think our best Extra Life moment was last year. We had a Strike tournament, put together by Josh Lentz, and it was an explosion of excitement and energy. The room was electric and everyone was sad when it was over. It was also a great way to jolt everyone awake heading into midnight.

  1. What is your team’s go-to streaming snack/beverage?

Over the years, we’ve realized that water and fruit have been the best things to help keep us awake and lively. Although, to be completely honest, my go-to snack is always chocolate … specifically snickers bars.

  1. What is your team’s favorite game to stream?

One of the games to get the most laughs and involvement on our stream is Mount My Friends. And now that you can put friends’ actual faces on the bodies, it makes it even more hilarious. We might do a tournament for that one this year too.
